The above 0 to 60 Mph and quarter mile times have been sourced from a combination of public publications, private testimonials and individual testing. Please keep in mind that there are a multitude of real world factors that can skew these results, including but not limited to: driver ability, pavement quality, tire quality, elevation, temperature, humidity at the testing site, and the quality of the recording device. Based on this, owners should expect their own vehicles to perform within a general acceptable range of these values.

Pontiac History:

While American manufacturers have had a long history in creating sports cars, possibly no marquee did more to the image that is the muscle car than Pontiac. Part of GM’s myriad of brands, Pontiac enjoyed great success throughout its first forty years. It was in 1964 though that GM’s performance division really took off. By introducing the GTO, not only did Pontiac separate itself from the rest of GM’s marquees, it basically created the muscle car segment. The performance ingenuity shown in designing and producing the GTO was exhibited in the following decade as the brand produced iconic vehicles such as the Trans-Am, the Firebird and the Grand Prix.

Due to its performance image Pontiac was a favorite of Hollywood, as two separate Trans-Ams became the stars of the “Smokey & The Bandit” movies, and the TV show Knight Rider. Even the downturn of the late 1980’s failed to effect Pontiac’s sports car dna. As gas and emissions fought against engine displacement, Pontiac looked to new avenues for its performance, creating the supercharged Grand Prix, the Fiero, the Quad-4 engine, all the while maintaining its halo cars, the Trans-Am & Firehawk.

Before Pontiac’s unfortunate closure during the GM bankruptcy of 2009, the brand had a 5-year run that was memorable in regards to the quality and performance of the cars produced. Pontiac tapped into GM’s Australian arm by bringing over the GTO and the G8. Both vehicles offered immense performance at a modest price, and came equipped what was, at the time, the best interiors in a GM car. Not to be outdone, the domestic portion of Pontiac came up with the Solstice, a throwback to classic European roadsters, and reinvigorated the Grand Prix and Bonneville with high horsepower V8 power plants.
