The above 0 to 60 Mph and quarter mile times have been sourced from a combination of public publications, private testimonials and individual testing. Please keep in mind that there are a multitude of real world factors that can skew these results, including but not limited to: driver ability, pavement quality, tire quality, elevation, temperature, humidity at the testing site, and the quality of the recording device. Based on this, owners should expect their own vehicles to perform within a general acceptable range of these values.

Mitsubishi History:

Born out of the Mitsubishi conglomerate, Mitsubishi Motors was fully established in 1960 as the Japanese automotive boon was in full effect. With a significant history in engineering and shipbuilding, as well as the ability to draw from the other members of the Mitsubishi keiretsu, Mitsubishi Motors experienced instant success with its automotive line. Within a few years the company was already producing over 100,000 vehicles annually. Through an aggressive plan for global expansion, Mitsubishi sought a global partner. It found it in the form of Chrysler, who took a 15-percent share in the company. This led to numerous Mitsubishi vehicles being exported to the United States and rebranded as Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth, and sales of over 950,000 vehicles annually. While still partnering with Chrysler, Mitsubishi introduced its own cars in 1982.

The Mitsubishi/Chrysler partnership was shifted in 1988 with the creation of a joint plant under the Diamond-Star Motors. When Mitsubishi then went public, this allowed Chrysler to take a 20-percent stake. By 1995 though Chrysler had completely divested its position. Interestingly, this was the most prosperous time for Mitsubishi, as sales grew to unimagined heights based on the strength of its SUV lineup. Chrysler came back in 1998. After having merged with Diamler-Benz, the company took a 34-percent stake in Mitsubishi. However, as before, the ownership position was completely sold off in 2005. Leaving Mitsubishi strapped for investment capital and new models. Recently in 2016, Mitsubishi has once again found a new suitor, with Renault-Nissan taking a 34-percent stake in the company.

While performance has never been a defining characteristic of Mitsubishi branded automobiles, the company does have its fair share of performance oriented models. The two most prominent of these being the Eclipse and the Evolution, not to mention the historically significant 3000GT VR-4. All these models have turbocharged engines and all-wheel drive features in common, with the exception of newer Eclipse V6s. This places them in a unique category of performance vehicles and makes their handling dynamics, and thus driving experience, distinctive to Mitsubishis.
