The above 0 to 60 Mph and quarter mile times have been sourced from a combination of public publications, private testimonials and individual testing. Please keep in mind that there are a multitude of real world factors that can skew these results, including but not limited to: driver ability, pavement quality, tire quality, elevation, temperature, humidity at the testing site, and the quality of the recording device. Based on this, owners should expect their own vehicles to perform within a general acceptable range of these values.

 

Maserati History:

Like many exclusive sports car manufacturers Maserati started strictly building race cars in 1914. Founded by four brothers, the Italian company wears its heritage close to its vest, exemplified by the Trident logo, which represents the Piazza Maggiore’s Neptune statue in Bologna. While the First and Second World War saw a halt in production, Maserati was able to quickly restart building race cars. Dominating much of motor sports for the first half of the century.

After a self-imposed retirement from racing in 1957, Maserati shifted its focus on road going cars. The Maserati 3500 GT was a turning point for the company. Its refined styling was an instant draw, with the final models featuring a voracious V8 that would power future Maserati’s. The next major turning point for the company was its purchase by Citroën in 1968. The next 6-years saw a refinement in Maserati design, as they were able to leverage both the financial backing of Citroën and their manufacturing expertise.

After the financial oil crisis of the early 70’s, Maserati saw itself in dire financial straits. Post-bankruptcy the brand was purchased by Alejandro de Tomaso. The next 17-years under de Tomaso were a whirlwind for Maserati. The brand completely abandoned mid-engine platforms, invested heavily in a twin-turbo V6 powerplant, and leveraged its name in a number of joint ventures. In 1993 de Tomaso sold the company to Fiat, which in turn turned it over to Ferrari in 1997 (Ferrari being owned by Fiat as well). Since then the brand has experienced a renaissance as Ferrari’s luxury arm. Gone are the small litre turbocharged power plants, replaced with high output V6 & V8’s. Modern models are a blend of luxury and performance styled with a passion that can only be described as uniquely Maserati.
