Step One:
To access the ignition coils you'll have to remove all the top engine shrouds.
Step Two:
With the shrouds out of the way you can see both cylinder banks. 1-3-5 on the passenger side, 2-4-6 on the driver side.
Step Three:
You might have to remove or work around vacuum lines to reach the coils.

Step Four:
To remove the coil unplug the electrical switch and loosen the single 10mm bolt holding it down. The coil can just be pulled straight up.
Step Five:
It's always a good idea to replace your spark plugs while you are at it. New plugs are installed at 15 ft. lbs.
Step Six:
The rear coils are the hardest to get to, but just take your time. You might have to rotate and wiggle the coil a bit to get it out.

Step Seven:
Sometimes when removing the coil the bolt plug can detach and come up with the coil.
Step Eight:
No need to worry. First clean the area where the plug goes on the cylinder head.
Step Nine:
Next spread the plug apart a bit so it'll have more tension when installed back in the hole.

Step Ten:
Add a little bit of epoxy to the plug's outside textured surface and place back into the hole. Let dry before continuing.
Step Eleven:
Before replacing the coil make sure you have the correct replacement. There are specific versions for the Direct Injection and regular Fuel Injected 3.6 liter V6's.
Step Twelve:
Add some dielectric grease to the tip before reinstalling and then install and tighten the coil to 7.5 ft. lbs. Your CTS should be running great now.
